The launch of the MyFirearms portal (www.firearmssafetyauthority.govt.nz) now gives firearms licence applicants in New Zealand the ability to efficiently apply and pay online for licences and some endorsements.
Te Tari Pureke was launched on 30th November 2022 by then Police Minister Chris Hipkins at the same time as the deployment of the new MyFirearms platform.
Police is moving from being an administrator of the Arms Act by standing up Te Tari Pūreke to become an effective regulator. Part of enabling that is having the technology to support it, and that is where Objective RegWorks comes in.
“Te Tari Pūreke is about keeping people safe and at the same time providing effective services to our firearms licence holders,” says Te Tari Pureke Executive Director Angela Brazier.[1]

Successful delivery Release One
The first delivery phase has been completed with the launch of the MyFirearms online portal. The portal allows people to apply and pay for licences, and some endorsements online and will be one of the channels that people can use to register their arms items once the firearms registry goes live later this year.
Once the registry is in place and becomes fully operational, registered firearms will be linked to licence holders. For the first time, there will be a clear picture of all the legally held firearms across New Zealand. This will allow Police to trace firearms, efficiently perform fit and proper assessments of applicants to legitimately use firearms, and protect the public from the harm that may be caused by the misuse of firearms.
Looking to the future
The next delivery milestone will be the go-live of the firearms registry later this year, followed by further releases and enhancements.
